Almost Done!
Since the previous pictures, the deck and slip changes have been pretty
much completed. The only thing left to do is to add some rails. The first of these
was put in place between the first level of the deck and the boat slip and is shown in this shot.
Also, note the steps that lead down into the yard on the west side. Eventually, we'll add
some stepping stones leading to the driveway at the back of the house.
The builder didn't add any more rails because we weren't sure where else we wanted them. After seeing
this first rail and the steps, we've decided that we want to add steps to the east side of the deck
in the same place as the west side. Some day, we may add a carport or garage on the east side
of the house and, at that point, steps on this side will come in handy.
Also, we want to add a rail
to the east side, not
turning in front of the bench as it does on the other side, but all the way down the side to the
bulkhead. Then, the rail will continue across the front of the deck, flush with the bulkhead to
the corner where the deck meets the slip extension. This can be seen better in the bottom two photos.
Finally, at Rick's suggestion, we think it will be a good idea to continue the rail up the west
side of the raised portion of the deck to meet up with the short section of rail that's already
been built, adding a gate there to allow access to the boat slip. Although we don't have any young children,
this will make it easier for visitors who do to keep them
away from the water's edge.
This third shot just shows the finished lamp posts with the light fixtures in place. The lights have photo
cells so that we don't have to remember to turn them off and on all the time. One of these days soon, I'll have
to go up to the lake and practice putting the boat into the slip, which I haven't tried yet! Rick, our builder,
has had it in there and said if fits fine, even with all the bumpers in place.
The last shot was taken from across the canal. Except for the final rail around the large part of the deck, this
is pretty much how the finished product looks.
