Cabinets and Carpet

The carpet was installed yesterday. This is a shot in the guest bedroom downstairs. The baseboards in the carpeted areas are not yet in place, as you can see in this picture. Note also that the closet door has been installed. In fact all the doors are now in place except for the folding closet doors in the master bedroom and loft and the folding doors for the utility room/pantry in the kitchen.

Next, a shot of the kitchen area where you can see that the cabinets are all in place. They look dark in this picture but they're really much lighter. I should have turned on the camera's flash and this would have been a better picture. Anyway, Robert is now working on the doors and drawers for the kitchen cabinets and the bathroom vanities.

Also in this picture, you can see that the appliances have been delivered. The refrigerator is plugged in and working although the water has not yet been turned on (that's supposed to happen today or tomorrow) so the icemaker is not yet hooked up. The stove is in place but not yet leveled. The washer/dryer, which is a stack unit, is just visible in the utility area to the right. Again, the water is not yet on for the washer and the dryer vent, which will be through a hole to be drilled in the floor, is not yet installed. The dishwasher, which doesn't show in this picture is in place but not yet hooked up.

Next, a shot from the loft which shows the boards on which the loft rails will be mounted. There will be kick boards, similarly stained, installed between the stairs and the walls on either side from the bottom to the top. This will, of course, protect the walls next to the stairs but will also make the carpet on the stairs tighter and more secure, I believe.

Finally, a picture of the downstairs vanity which Robert just finished (the vanity tops are from Lowe's). Originally, this was supposed to be a 48-inch vanity but the downstairs bath is just too small and we had to go with a 36-inch. The loft bath is a little bigger and the 48-inch fits fine up there. The vanity faucets, which my wife, after seeing these pictures, informed me were not supposed to have the white handles, are evidently not the ones we bought. So, either Lowe's gave us the wrong faucets or Rick got them switched with someone else's. If Lowe's is at fault, then my wife says we can just leave them. On the other hand, if Rick has the right ones some where, then he will be glad to switch them out, I'm sure.
