Completed!

Well, not much has been going on at the lake lately. First of all, the weather has been pretty lousy, for the whole month of February in fact. Secondly, I got what felt like the flu, which lasted for about a week. In fact, my wife and I both came down with it on Valentine's Day with temps of almost 102! Then it turned into the usual "upper respiratory infection" which I always seem to get this time of year. I went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago for treatment and most of the flu symptoms are gone now. But I still have a cough and can't seem to get rid of it.

Oh well, enough about me, let's get back to the lake house. I went up to the lake last Thursday to see if the guys had made that last change to the deck rail. They hadn't so I found them over at another house where they were working and asked about it. They said they'd try to get it done early this week. Well, I went back up to the lake yesterday (Tuesday, 3/8) and they had made the changes. So, I think I can finally say now that the project is completed!

I took these shots yesterday. The first one shows the east side of the deck where they shortened the upper portion of the rail and added a step down to the ground. This gives us access to the deck from the east side of the house.

This next shot shows that, as requested, they took the leftover rail materials from the east side and added a short portion next to the bench on the west side. Now, both sides look pretty much the same and the whole deck has a more completed look.

Next, I walked around to the other side of the canal and took this shot which shows the "completed" project. The only other thing that has to be added is something to enclose the underside of the house. We have 6 months (or a year, I forget which) to do that. I plan to use lattice and do the work myself.

I took this final shot to show that they have put up a bath house or restrooms on something over by the swimming pool. This does block our view of the lake somewhat from the back of the house and the deck. But, if you walk around the west side of the house, the view from the porch on that side has not really changed, so I guess it's not that big of a deal.
