Framing Almost Done on First Floor
Yesterday (July 9, 2004), I went back up to the lake to see how the framing
was coming along. The first picture shows the front door and the many windows on the south and west sides
of the living room.
Next is a shot looking out the back door from near the front door. Once the stairway to the loft is put
in, you won't be able to see the back door from this spot. Emily, who came up with me, inspects the doorway
leading to the downstairs bathroom which has now been framed.
Next is a shot of the outside walls. Cedar siding will eventually go on over that. In the foreground you
can see the trusses which Rick prefers to single-piece ceiling beams (or joists or whatever you call them).
Rick says the trusses are stronger, less likely to warp, facilitate running ductwork and wiring, and probably
have a few more advantages that I can't remember.
The last shot was taken from the road just up the hill. You can barely make out the bulldozer behind the
house. They were still working on enlarging the cul-de-sac. Before we left for the day, the dozer had moved
to the east side of the house (facing the camera in this shot). There they started working on moving out
that big mound of dirt that had been scooped out of the channel several weeks ago.
